GLENDALE, Ariz. — May 5, 2025

A peaceful Sunday evening turned into a tragic scene of violence in Glendale, Arizona, as a mass shooting erupted outside El Camaron Gigante Mariscos & Steakhouse, a popular restaurant known for its vibrant atmosphere and live events. Glendale Police have confirmed that at least three people were killed and five others injured in the shooting, which took place around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, near the intersection of 57th and Glendale Avenues.

The shooting occurred during a bustling time at the restaurant, which was hosting the “OASA – On A Sunday Afternoon” gathering, drawing a large crowd from the community. Witnesses described a chaotic and terrifying scene as gunfire erupted, sending patrons and staff scrambling for safety. Emergency crews flooded the area in response to frantic 911 calls, and multiple law enforcement agencies joined Glendale Police in securing the perimeter and aiding victims.

According to early reports, at least one of the shooters was seen wielding a rifle-style weapon, and authorities have confirmed that the nature of the attack suggests a deliberate and targeted act of violence, though the motive remains unclear at this time.

Police have released a description of one of the suspects, urging the public to assist in locating him. The suspect is described as a Latino male, with long brown hair, wearing a red hat, red shirt, and dark jeans. Authorities have not disclosed how many individuals were involved in the shooting or if any arrests have been made, but they emphasize that the investigation is active and ongoing.

Glendale Police spokesperson Lt. Kimberly Powers addressed the media late Sunday night, stating:

“This is a devastating tragedy for our community. We are doing everything in our power to track down those responsible and bring justice to the victims and their families. We ask anyone with information, video footage, or who may have seen anything suspicious to come forward immediately.”

The identities of the deceased victims have not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The five injured individuals were transported to local hospitals with varying degrees of injuries. At least two are reported to be in critical condition.

The area surrounding El Camaron Gigante remains cordoned off as forensic teams work to process the scene. Community members gathered nearby throughout the night, lighting candles and expressing grief over the sudden violence that shattered what should have been a joyful evening.

Local leaders have also begun speaking out in the aftermath. Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers called the incident “heartbreaking” and said the city will offer counseling and support services for those affected.

This shooting marks one of the most severe acts of gun violence in Glendale in recent years and comes amid growing concerns nationwide over the rise in mass shootings in public spaces. Community members and advocacy groups are calling for accountability and long-term solutions to prevent future tragedies.

As the investigation continues, anyone with information is urged to contact Glendale Police Department at (623) 930-3000 or submit tips anonymously to Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377).
