Terre Haute, IN — The Terre Haute Police Department is currently investigating an active incident involving reports of shots fired at the Candlewood Suites, located in the 700 block of Wabash Avenue. Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the scene earlier this evening after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, officers secured the perimeter of the hotel and immediately began their investigation. As of now, authorities have not confirmed any injuries, but they are conducting a thorough search of the property and surrounding area to ensure the safety of guests, staff, and local residents. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing several loud bangs, followed by a visible police presence converging on the hotel.

The Terre Haute Police Department is urging the public to avoid the area while officers continue to assess the situation and gather evidence. Emergency vehicles, including multiple police units and possibly medical response teams, remain on the scene. Road closures may be in place along sections of Wabash Avenue and adjacent streets to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

Police have not yet released any information regarding suspects or motives behind the incident. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from both the hotel and nearby businesses to piece together the events leading up to the reported gunfire.

“We understand the concern this causes in our community and want to assure the public that we are actively investigating the matter,” said a spokesperson for the Terre Haute Police Department. “Our priority right now is to ensure everyone’s safety and to bring clarity to what occurred.”

Residents and travelers are advised to stay clear of the 700 block of Wabash Avenue and to follow any directions provided by local law enforcement. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Terre Haute Police Department’s tip line.

Updates will be provided as more details become available. Until then, please remain patient and avoid the area so authorities can bring the situation to a safe resolution.
