It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we share the passing of Ingrid Noemi “Mimi” Morales Lopez, a bright light in the lives of her family and friends, whose life was tragically cut short on May 5th, at just 24 years old. Mimi, as she was lovingly known, was a beacon of hope, joy, and resilience, and her untimely departure leaves a void that words can scarcely describe.
Born and raised in Samayac, Suchitepéquez, Guatemala, Ingrid Noemi was a loving daughter, a devoted sister, and a cherished friend. She grew up surrounded by a close-knit and hardworking family that nurtured her kind spirit and instilled in her a powerful sense of determination. From a young age, Mimi dreamed big—she wanted more than anything to create a life filled with opportunity, growth, and the chance to give back to those she loved.
That dream led her to the United States. At just 23 years old, after completing her studies, she made the courageous journey to Los Angeles, California. She came in pursuit of a brighter future—not only for herself but also for her family back in Guatemala, whom she held close to her heart every single day. Her strength and bravery in starting anew in a foreign land were admired by everyone who knew her.
Mimi quickly became known among her peers and community in Los Angeles for her warm personality, her ready smile, and the deep empathy she extended to everyone around her. Whether she was volunteering her time, helping her co-workers, or sending support back home, she did it all with grace and selflessness. Her heart was as big as her dreams, and her life, though short, was marked by kindness, compassion, and a quiet strength that inspired those around her.
On May 5th, her life was taken in a tragic accident, leaving behind shock and grief that rippled through both her communities in Los Angeles and in Samayac. The loss of someone so young, so full of promise, and so deeply loved, is unfathomable. Her family is devastated. They remember her as the girl who never stopped believing in the beauty of life and the power of love—an angel now watching over them from above.
As her loved ones grieve this heartbreaking loss, they are working tirelessly to fulfill her final wish—to return her to her hometown of Samayac, Suchitepéquez, where she can rest peacefully among her ancestors, surrounded by the land and people she cherished. It is their hope to bring Mimi home, to say goodbye in the traditions of their culture, and to give her the farewell she so deeply deserves.
