CHICAGO — Two Teenagers Killed, One Man Wounded in Triple Shooting in Auburn Gresham
CHICAGO — A violent triple shooting in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood left two teenagers dead and a young man wounded early Wednesday morning, authorities reported. The incident occurred in the 8100 block of South Marshfield Avenue, prompting a swift response from local police.
The first victim, a 16-year-old boy, was discovered unresponsive on a second-floor back porch of a multi-unit residential building. Police said he suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shocking discovery stunned neighbors in the usually quiet community.
Inside the same building, officers located another teenager, a 17-year-old boy, lying in a hallway with gunshot wounds to both the head and chest. Emergency responders confirmed his death at the scene, marking the shooting as one of the deadliest on the South Side in recent months.
A 21-year-old man was found hiding under a bed within the apartment. He had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was immediately transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Hospital officials later reported that he was in fair condition.
A 13-year-old boy was also present in the apartment during the shooting but fortunately remained unharmed. Authorities said the young teen was being questioned to provide any potential eyewitness information, though he was physically safe from harm.
Evidence collected at the scene included numerous shell casings and bloodstains, suggesting multiple shooters were involved. Detectives emphasized the severity of the attack, noting that the layout of the building complicated the investigation. Police continue to meticulously document the scene for further leads.
Neighbors described the early morning chaos, with one resident saying she heard gunfire between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. She recalled gathering her children in fear, praying until the sounds of violence subsided. Witnesses reported seeing three men fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting, though their identities remain unknown.
The Chicago Fire Department assisted with rescue efforts and medical transport, ensuring the injured victim received immediate care. Authorities also coordinated with local hospitals to track anyone potentially affected by the shooting.
Chicago police Area Two detectives have taken the lead in the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time, and detectives are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help identify suspects. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identities of the deceased once families have been notified.
