Community Mourns 21-Year-Old Cierra Brena Anthony After Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Tuscaloosa community is mourning the devastating loss of 21-year-old Cierra Brena Anthony, whose life was cut short in a tragic multi-vehicle accident early Sunday morning, November 9, 2025, on Interstate 359.

According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the crash occurred around 2 a.m. on the southbound side of I-359 near Exit 1. Authorities say the initial incident involved two vehicles in what appeared to be a minor collision, with no injuries reported at first. Both drivers, including Cierra, exited their vehicles to assess the situation — a moment that tragically placed them in harm’s way.

While the two stood near their cars, five additional vehicles came upon the scene, striking the crash area in quick succession. The impact was catastrophic. Cierra sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene. The other driver was seriously injured and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment. Five additional individuals from the secondary crashes were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-359 remained closed for several hours as the Traffic Homicide Unit and Northport Police worked to investigate and reconstruct the events that led to the devastating chain reaction. Officers are examining all contributing factors, including lighting conditions, vehicle speeds, visibility, and whether distraction or impaired driving may have played a role.

Family and friends describe Cierra Brena Anthony as a bright, caring, and deeply loved young woman with her whole future ahead of her. She was known for her warm smile, kindness, and the way she made everyone around her feel valued. A graduate of Central High School, Cierra was pursuing her dreams and working toward a brighter future, inspiring those who knew her with her determination and compassion.

Her loved ones shared that she had plans for that Sunday — simple, joyful moments with friends and family — before tragedy struck. “She was full of life, always the one who could make you laugh even on the hardest days,” said a close friend. “It doesn’t feel real that she’s gone.”

As word of her passing spread, the Tuscaloosa community came together to show support. A growing roadside memorial now marks the spot along I-359, adorned with flowers, candles, and photos left by grieving friends. Vigils are being planned for later in the week, offering space for loved ones to honor her memory and find comfort in one another.

Police continue to urge drivers to use extreme caution when involved in roadside incidents, reminding the public how quickly a minor accident can turn tragic. “If you’re ever involved in a crash on a highway, stay inside your vehicle with hazard lights on if it’s safe to do so,” one officer said. “Tragic events like this remind us how vulnerable we are on the road.”

For those who loved her, Cierra’s passing is an unbearable loss — one that will be felt for years to come. Her family has requested privacy as they navigate this unimaginable grief but expressed gratitude for the community’s compassion and prayers.

“She was our light,” her mother said. “And though her light is gone from this world, it will never fade from our hearts.”
