Investigative Update: Ongoing Efforts Following Tragic Incident at the Church of the Transfiguration
This remains an active and ongoing investigation that will require an extensive and thorough follow-up. Our dedicated investigative teams are working around the clock, alongside numerous partner agencies, to ensure every detail is accounted for and every question receives an answer.
As the sun rises on this difficult day, our hearts and deepest sympathies are with the children, families, teachers, and administrators of the Church of the Transfiguration, as well as with our injured staff members. This community is more than just a geographical area—it is a family. And today, that family is grieving, healing, and standing strong together.
Status of Injured Individuals
We are relieved to report that one of the children who had been transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn has since been released and is recovering. Our thoughts are with this young individual and their family as they begin the path to healing.
Two other children transported to Christ Hospital remain admitted and are under professional care. We are monitoring their progress closely and remain hopeful for their recovery.
Additionally, regarding our law enforcement personnel, we can confirm that one Palos Park Police officer who had been transported to Loyola Medical Center has been discharged. Another officer remains hospitalized at Palos Northwestern, and we continue to offer our unwavering support to them and their family during this time.

Reflections on Community Resilience
In the face of unimaginable tragedy, the spirit of community has never shone more brightly. We witnessed courageous teachers, staff, and civilians running toward the danger to protect and aid others. We saw neighbors becoming protectors, people stepping up selflessly to offer support, comfort, and tangible help.
Religious institutions across Palos Park reached out unprompted, offering their assistance, prayers, and solidarity with the Church of the Transfiguration and those affected. We are incredibly moved by these acts of goodwill and partnership.
In the midst of chaos, confusion, and fear, we experienced the very best of humanity: compassion, bravery, action, and unity. These moments, though born from tragedy, will stand as lasting reminders of what it means to be a true community.
