Police in Spain say a body found in the waters off the coast of Spain has been confirmed to be missing University of Alabama student James “Jimmy” Gracey.
Gracey, 20, was found dead in water off Barcelona beach earlier on Thursday, according to Catalan police.
“This afternoon we have located a lifeless body in the Somorrostro area of Barcelona and we are carrying out procedures to identify it,” police in Spain said in a statement on X translated from Catalan.
Gracey was last seen around 3 a.m. on March 17 outside Shôko Barcelona, a popular nightclub in the city’s Olympic Village near Barceloneta Beach, his family said in a Facebook statement.

Police reviewed surveillance footage from that night – which has not been publicly released – that shows Gracey outside Shôko, leaving the club with another person, leading authorities to suspect foul play, Gisela Macedo, a reporter for El Periódico in Barcelona, said in an interview with CBS 42.
Police also said his wallet was found floating in the water near Somorrostro Beach, prompting an intensified search of the surrounding coastline, according to ABC7 Chicago.
No persons of interest have been publicly identified.
