A tragic wrong-way crash on Capital Boulevard/US 1 in Wake Forest, North Carolina, claimed the life of 24-year-old Katana Perry of Raleigh late Tuesday night, May 20, 2025. The incident has left the community mourning the loss of a young life and raised concerns about road safety.

The Incident

Around 11:15 p.m., Wake Forest Police responded to a three-vehicle collision near Star Road. Preliminary investigations revealed that 74-year-old Willie Gene Coleman of Philadelphia was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard when his vehicle collided with two others. Katana Perry was a passenger in one of the vehicles struck and was pronounced dead at the scene .

The drivers of the other two vehicles were identified as 36-year-old Barrett Carter of Raleigh and 19-year-old Quidasiah Teachey of Franklinton. Carter sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while Teachey suffered minor injuries . Coleman was hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities have charged him with misdemeanor death by vehicle and driving the wrong way on a dual-lane highway. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash .
