LEE COUNTY, MS – Authorities in Lee County have launched an active homicide investigation following the discovery of two deceased individuals at a residence on County Road 295 in the Shannon area. The grim discovery was made on the afternoon of Friday, May 23, 2025, and has since prompted a thorough law enforcement response as investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the deaths.

According to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson, deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after a 911 call was received at approximately 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals—whose identities have not yet been released—dead inside the home. Both victims appeared to have suffered injuries consistent with foul play, prompting authorities to immediately treat the incident as a homicide.

Crime scene investigators, along with officials from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, quickly secured the area. Yellow tape cordoned off the property as detectives began collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses, including neighbors and individuals who may have had contact with the victims in recent days. Forensic teams remained at the scene well into the evening, carefully combing the home and surrounding property for clues.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation, and our priority right now is to determine what happened and who is responsible,” Sheriff Johnson stated during a brief press conference on Friday evening. “This is a tragic situation, and we are doing everything in our power to bring justice to the victims and their families.”

Local residents expressed shock and concern as news of the deaths spread throughout the Shannon community. While violent crime is not unheard of in the area, a double homicide is considered a rare and deeply unsettling event.

“It’s scary,” said one neighbor who asked to remain anonymous. “We’ve never had anything like this happen around here. We’re praying for the families and hoping they catch whoever did this quickly.”

As of Saturday morning, authorities had not announced any arrests or named any suspects in connection with the case. Investigators are urging anyone with information—no matter how seemingly insignificant—to come forward.
