On the morning of Saturday, June 7, 2025, at approximately 4:20 a.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) were dispatched to the 700 block of Florence Street following a report of a disturbance involving a physical altercation and the sound of gunfire. The situation quickly escalated into a shooting incident that has now prompted an active police investigation.
A short time after the initial call, a 30-year-old man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the ankle. Medical staff treated the victim for what have been described as non-life-threatening injuries. Despite the wound being serious enough to require medical attention, the man is expected to recover fully.
