Jane Doe Victimized in Kroger Restroom Incident: Tupelo Police Arrest Undocumented Suspect for Secretly Filming Woman

Tupelo, MS — A disturbing incident at a local Kroger has led to the arrest of a man accused of secretly filming a woman in a public restroom. The Tupelo Police Department (TPD) reports that on June 10, officers responded to a call at the Kroger on West Main Street involving a man who had followed a woman, identified only as Jane Doe for privacy, into the women’s restroom.

According to authorities, the man was seen entering the restroom after the victim and allegedly used his cellphone to film her without her consent. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and made contact with the suspect. Through the initial investigation and witness statements, the allegations were substantiated, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

TPD detectives conducted interviews with the victim and multiple witnesses to gather further evidence. The investigation confirmed that the suspect had unlawfully recorded the woman for lewd purposes, violating her right to privacy in a space where individuals have a reasonable expectation of security and dignity.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Jairo L. Ramirez, was arrested and charged with Secretly Photographing for Lewd Purposes or Invading the Privacy for Photographing, a misdemeanor under Mississippi law. Despite the misdemeanor classification, the charge reflects a serious breach of privacy and safety.

Authorities revealed that Ramirez is in the United States illegally. Following his arrest, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a hold on him, and he is currently being held without bond. Law enforcement has not ruled out the possibility of additional charges pending further investigation.

The Tupelo Police Department has reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of all community members, stating that such predatory behavior will be met with immediate and decisive action.

“This type of criminal behavior—especially in a setting where people expect privacy—will not be tolerated,” said a spokesperson for TPD. “We acted swiftly and are working with all appropriate agencies, including ICE, to ensure the proper course of justice is followed.”

The case has sparked renewed concerns about public safety in retail and grocery establishments, and community members are encouraged to report any suspicious behavior immediately to law enforcement.

The victim, whose name is being withheld for privacy reasons, is cooperating with authorities and has received support from advocacy groups and victim services.

As the legal process unfolds, Ramirez remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any incidents of suspicious behavior.
