San Antonio Police Investigating Fatal West Side Shooting Involving Family Members

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A tense and tragic scene unfolded early Monday morning on the city’s West Side, where a man was fatally shot during what authorities say was a heated argument with a relative. The shooting occurred around 5 a.m. at a home near North Pinto Street and West Salinas Street, leaving one man dead and another on the run as police continue their investigation.

According to San Antonio Police Department officials, the incident took place during a small gathering at the residence, with approximately four to five people present. While details remain under investigation, police say a dispute broke out between a 35-year-old man and his 38-year-old relative—both of whom reportedly stepped outside the home to confront one another.

Moments later, witnesses reported hearing a single gunshot. When they rushed outside, they discovered the 35-year-old victim lying on the ground, gravely wounded. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and began life-saving efforts before rushing the man to a nearby hospital. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

His name has not yet been released, pending official notification of next of kin.

The suspect, whose identity has also not been made public at this time, fled the scene before police could arrive. Investigators noted that no firearm was recovered at the scene, adding a layer of complexity to what is already a deeply troubling case.

Detectives with SAPD’s Homicide Unit canvassed the area Monday morning, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses in an attempt to piece together exactly what led to the deadly confrontation. The motive behind the argument remains unclear, though police confirmed that the two men were family members and that the gathering prior to the incident appeared to be informal in nature.

“This is a tragic situation that escalated far too quickly,” said a spokesperson with the San Antonio Police Department. “We are urging the suspect to turn themselves in and are asking anyone with information about their whereabouts to contact police immediately.”

Neighbors were left stunned by the morning’s violence, especially given the familial connection between the individuals involved.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said one nearby resident. “To think a family argument could end in something like this—it’s just senseless. We heard the sirens and had no idea what was going on until we saw the news. I just pray for peace for that family.”

As investigators work around the clock to locate the suspect, the community is left grappling with another act of violence in what should have been a quiet neighborhood. San Antonio, like many cities across the country, continues to face challenges related to domestic and family-related disputes that turn violent, often with tragic consequences.

The San Antonio Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to call their non-emergency line or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

As the victim’s family awaits answers and mourns an unimaginable loss, this case stands as another grim reminder of how quickly life can be altered by a single act of violence—even among those bound by blood.
