GILLETTE, Wyo. — June 19, 2025 — A devastating tragedy has rocked the tight-knit community of Gillette as two well-known and beloved residents, Ricky Lynch, 74, and Steve Layman, 68, lost their lives in a horrific highway accident on Wednesday morning.

The fatal crash occurred just outside Gillette along a stretch of highway that local residents often travel for both work and recreation. According to preliminary reports from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Lynch and Layman were each riding their motorcycles when, without warning, a work truck traveling in the opposite direction veered across the centerline, colliding head-on with the two men.

Known for his quick wit and easy laughter, Layman brought joy to every room he entered and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, who remain in the Gillette area.
