PETERSBURG, Va. — The Petersburg Bureau of Police is actively searching for T’Assir Kobi Scott, the man accused of fatally shooting 23-year-old Tyrone J. Matthews in early June.

The incident took place in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in the 2300 block of Navajo Court. Responding to reports of gunfire, officers arrived on the scene and found Matthews suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

On Friday, June 27, police provided a tragic update — Tyrone J. Matthews had died from his injuries, and the case is now officially classified as a homicide investigation.

T’Assir Kobi Scott has been identified as the suspect in this fatal shooting. Authorities describe him as:

  • Male, 5 feet 10 inches tall
  • Weighing approximately 185 pounds
  • With brown eyes and black hair

Scott is wanted for murder and is considered armed and dangerous. Police are warning the public not to approach him under any circumstances. If you see him or know of his whereabouts, immediately call 911 or contact local law enforcement.
