On the afternoon of May 1, 2025, a tragic two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of US 127 and KY 558 in Clinton County, Kentucky, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries

At approximately 4:10 p.m. CST, 21-year-old Kayelyn Garrett of Livingston, Tennessee, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on KY 558. As she approached the intersection with US 127, her vehicle entered the path of a northbound 1999 Dodge Dakota operated by 18-year-old Derek Guffey of Albany, Kentucky. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Casualties and Injuries

Ms. Garrett sustained critical injuries and was transported to the Medical Center at Albany, where she was pronounced deceased by the Clinton County Coroner. Mr. Guffey suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment.

A juvenile passenger in Ms. Garrett’s vehicle also sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital. Two additional passengers in the Tahoe, 23-year-old Sierra Fulton of Monticello and another juvenile, were treated for minor injuries at the Medical Center at Albany.

Ongoing Investigation

Senior Trooper Trevor High is overseeing the ongoing investigation into the collision. KSP Post 15 Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Albany Police Department, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Clinton County Fire/EMS, and the Clinton County Coroner.

The Kentucky State Police have not yet released information regarding potential contributing factors to the collision, such as speed, impairment, or weather conditions. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

This incident underscores the importance of cautious driving, especially at intersections, and serves as a somber reminder of the potential consequences of traffic collisions.
