Madison County, AL – A homicide investigation is underway in the New Market area following a deadly shooting in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 23-year-old Evan Mayomi of Birmingham was shot and killed at a residence located in the 200 block of Bent Creek Lane.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call reporting that an individual had been shot. Madison County deputies responded within minutes and discovered Evan Mayomi suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies immediately began administering life-saving measures until paramedics from HEMSI (Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc.) arrived. Despite the tireless efforts of first responders, Mayomi was pronounced dead at the scene.
