HICKORY, NC — A life was tragically cut short on the evening of July 4, 2025, when Mary Elizabeth Ervin, a 30-year-old woman from Hickory, was found shot and killed inside a room at the Deluxe Inn, located on Highway 70 SW. The Hickory Police Department responded to the call around 6:41 p.m., only to discover that Mary had already succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound. Police have named James David Houser, also 30 and a Hickory resident, as the suspect in Mary’s murder. A warrant for his arrest has been issued on charges of murder, and law enforcement is actively searching for him.
