17-Year-Old Found Dead in Birmingham Home, Community Seeks Answers

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into an unclassified death that occurred Friday morning in the Gate City housing community.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on July 25, 2025, officers from the East Precinct responded to a call in the 7500 block of 67th Courtway South following reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found 17-year-old Reginald Pope unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the teenager deceased.

A preliminary investigation indicates that multiple individuals were likely present inside the residence at the time of the shooting. Detectives are working to determine whether the incident was intentional or accidental. A witness or person of interest was transported to Birmingham Police Headquarters for questioning as part of the investigation.

The Birmingham Police Department has not yet officially classified the case as a homicide, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under review. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
