BILLINGS, Mont. – Authorities have identified the young man at the center of an ongoing investigation into what Billings police are calling a “possible homicide.”

The Yellowstone County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that the deceased is Wayland Lance Limpy Jr., 19, of Lame Deer. Deputy Coroner Rich Hoffman stated that the cause and manner of death remain under investigation at this time.

The investigation began Wednesday evening, July 23, 2025, when Limpy was transported to Billings Clinic in a private vehicle. Despite efforts by medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Following the incident, an area outside the clinic’s Emergency Department was temporarily blocked off with crime scene tape as law enforcement began gathering evidence.

According to the Billings Police Department, the suspected scene of the incident is located in the 700 block of Cook Avenue. Investigators have yet to release additional details about what occurred at that location.

Police have identified a “person of interest” in connection to the case, though no arrests have been announced as of July 25, 2025. Authorities also emphasized that there is currently no known threat to the public.

This remains a developing story, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Wayland Lance Limpy Jr.
