AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The Aiken County community is mourning the devastating loss of Summer Poole, a 28-year-old motorcyclist from New Ellenton, who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday evening, July 26, 2025.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:09 p.m. at the intersection of Whiskey Road and Chukker Creek Road. According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, Poole was riding a 2003 Honda motorcycle southbound on Whiskey Road when a northbound Honda Civic turned left into her path, causing a catastrophic impact. Emergency responders pronounced Poole deceased at the scene at 6:53 p.m.
Investigators have indicated that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Authorities arrested a suspect at the scene, identified as 55-year-old Christopher Hogan, who has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death. Hogan remains in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center without bond, pending further legal proceedings. An autopsy for Poole is scheduled for next week in Newberry to determine the precise cause of death.
Summer Poole was a cherished member of the local motorcycle community, often riding alongside her husband, Billy Poole, whom she married in 2021. The couple’s shared passion for motorcycling was well-known among their friends and fellow riders. News of Summer’s tragic death has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes across social media, reflecting the profound impact she had on those who knew her.
“I can’t believe this. She was the sweetest person ever. RIP Summer Poole. My prayers are with you, Billy Poole,” wrote Latoya Lester in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Deanett Moseley echoed the sentiment, stating, “I just can’t believe this… My heart breaks for her husband and family. People, please remember motorcycles—yes, we’re not all bad and we have families too. Look out for us.”
Another community member, Holly Bates, expressed, “Prayers for the family. Actions need to be taken seriously when it comes to motorcyclists being hit and killed, especially with all the people moving to the areas around.”
Summer’s mother, Jamie Brogden, shared her anguish in a public post, writing, “Especially when they are drinking and driving and high. That was my daughter that was killed. As she was going straight at the light on her bike, the driver of the other car took a left turn and hit her, taking her life. The driver and his wife were both intoxicated in their vehicle. My daughter was only 28 years old.”
The Aiken Department of Public Safety and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The incident marks at least the ninth fatal crash in Aiken County in 2025, according to South Carolina Department of Public Safety data, underscoring the ongoing risks faced by motorcyclists on the roads.
