In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the Cahokia Heights community reeling, an 11-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being shot in broad daylight. The shooting occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025, at approximately 3:25 p.m. in the 1600 block of Andrews Drive, a residential area typically known for its calm.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was swiftly activated at the request of the Cahokia Heights Police Department to lead the investigation. Over 20 investigators have been working diligently, following up on more than 75 leads in their pursuit of justice for the young victim.

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged 33-year-old Jeremiah A. Johnson, a Cahokia Heights resident, in connection with the shooting. Johnson faces serious felony charges, including:

– Aggravated Battery (Class X Felony)
– Mob Action (Class 4 Felony)
– Obstructing Justice (Class 4 Felony)

According to authorities, Johnson allegedly threatened another individual with a firearm and obstructed justice by destroying evidence and providing false information to investigators. He is currently being held without bond at the St. Clair County Jail, pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

The young victim, who was riding his bicycle at the time of the incident, was struck in the head by a bullet. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The community has rallied around the boy’s family, offering prayers and support during this difficult time.

While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities have not yet released details about the motive or whether others may have been involved. The Major Case Squad continues to seek answers and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

The public is encouraged to contact:
