BEECH ISLAND, S.C. — Authorities in Aiken County are investigating the tragic death of a 10-year-old girl who was fatally shot late Wednesday night at a residence in Beech Island.
According to Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables, the incident occurred shortly before midnight on Wednesday at a home located in the 100 block of Dorsett Kenzie Road, near Church Road off Pine Log Road.
The victim has been identified as Lavinia Lowe, a 10-year-old girl.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered Lowe unresponsive on a bed inside the home.
She had sustained a single gunshot wound, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not yet released information regarding the circumstances of the shooting, including whether the incident was accidental, self-inflicted, or involved another individual.

No additional details have been provided about who was present in the home at the time.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case in coordination with the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy has been scheduled to be performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta.
No arrests have been announced as of Thursday afternoon, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
