27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda Killed After Opening Fire Outside Border Patrol Annex in McAllen
McALLEN, Texas — A suspect is dead following a shooting outside the U.S. Border Patrol sector annex near McAllen International Airport on Monday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, opened fire on the federal building but did not gain entry, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez confirmed during a press conference.
“He fired many, many rounds at the building,” Rodriguez said, noting that Mosqueda was subsequently shot and killed by Border Patrol agents and local police officers who responded to the attack.
A photo of the building’s entrance showed significant bullet damage to the glass doors.
Authorities said Mosqueda was armed and had additional weapons and ammunition inside his vehicle, which carried Michigan license plates.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that two police officers and one Border Patrol employee sustained injuries during the incident.

One officer was shot in the knee but is expected to recover.
Mosqueda, who had a Michigan address, was reported missing earlier that morning from Weslaco, Texas.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of that report, and no motive for the shooting has been determined at this time.
City officials temporarily delayed all flights at McAllen International Airport as a precaution following the gunfire exchange, which involved dozens of rounds.
Authorities emphasized there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat in the area.
