MILWAUKEE, WI – A harrowing abduction of 7-year-old Jamal White unfolded on Friday, July 11, 2025, near North 61st and West Hustis Streets in Milwaukee, captured in chilling detail by newly obtained surveillance footage. The incident prompted a statewide Amber Alert and a nearly 24-hour search, culminating in the boy’s safe recovery on Saturday evening.
According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the abduction occurred around 7:00 p.m. as Jamal was riding his bicycle home from a nearby park in the city’s northwest side. Surveillance video, including doorbell camera footage, shows a white Jeep Renegade SUV with an unknown license plate positioned near the boy’s residence in the 6200 block of West Hustis Street. As Jamal approached his driveway, the Jeep slowly maneuvered before abruptly turning around to block the entrance.
The footage reveals a coordinated and brazen act: four masked men, all reportedly armed with handguns, emerged from the vehicle. Jamal’s aunt, Simone White, recounted to WISN 12 News that the boy’s father, who was driving alongside Jamal in a separate vehicle, was nearby as they returned from the park. One suspect pointed a gun at the father’s car window, while another targeted Jamal, chasing him up the driveway. The video captures a suspect forcibly carrying the boy back to the Jeep, where he was placed inside before the vehicle sped away. Family members rushed out of the home in panic, with Jamal’s father striking his car in anguish as the Jeep fled.
The Milwaukee Police Department issued an Amber Alert just before midnight on July 11, describing Jamal as a Black male, 4 feet tall, weighing approximately 80 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts. The suspect was initially described as a Black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask, armed with a handgun, though family accounts suggested multiple perpetrators.
Community members, family, and friends rallied on July 12, distributing flyers and searching neighborhoods, gas stations, and wooded areas for any sign of Jamal or the white Jeep Renegade. Frustration arose over the delay in issuing the Amber Alert, with family members like Nikki Harrington, Jamal’s cousin, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. “You wouldn’t think someone would do anything to a child,” Harrington told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I just want Baby J to come home.”
The search ended in relief on Saturday, July 12, at approximately 6:36 p.m., when Milwaukee police announced that Jamal had been found safe at a residence near North 39th and West Lloyd Streets, roughly six and a half miles from the abduction site. Cherica Morrise, who identified herself as Jamal’s grandmother, shared the news on Facebook, writing, “Baby J has been found and he’s okay! One person has been arrested. Thank you all so much for your prayers and support!” Jamal was taken to a hospital for evaluation, and his cousin Raven Jackson described him as appearing scared but relieved to be reunited with family.
Milwaukee police arrested three men in connection with the abduction. On July 12, a 25-year-old was apprehended at the home where Jamal was found, in the 2000 block of North 39th Street, on a probation violation charge. Two additional suspects, both 27 years old, were arrested at the residence where the abduction occurred. One faces tentative charges of resisting and obstructing, while the other is held for second-degree recklessly endangering safety. The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed on July 14 that criminal charges against the 25-year-old would be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, and there is no ongoing threat to the public. However, it remains unclear whether all charges are directly tied to the abduction, and the motive behind the incident has not been disclosed.
The investigation continues, with authorities relying on surveillance footage, including neighbor Mynelious Mages’ video capturing the Jeep’s movements, and community tips that were instrumental in locating Jamal. The Milwaukee Police Department expressed gratitude for the public’s assistance, stating, “Jamal has been located and is safe. The Milwaukee Police Department would like to thank everyone for their assistance in this matter.”
