The incident took place around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Reinhard Avenue and South Champion Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the victim critically injured from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders transported the individual to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
As of now, authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Investigators are actively seeking information and have located a suspect vehicle, though the suspect remains unidentified and at large.
This incident adds to a series of recent shootings in Columbus. Just a day prior, on April 28, Jamal Jones, 34, was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Fountain Lane on the city’s east side. Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire and found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound; he was later pronounced dead at Mount Carmel East Hospital.
