The Bair Lake family extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Wayne Bomgaars, a beloved friend, mentor, and spiritual leader. Wayne passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his loving family. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his life leaves an enduring legacy that will continue to echo through the lives he touched and the ministry he faithfully served for over half a century.
Wayne’s ministry at Bair Lake Bible Camp (BLBC) spanned more than 50 years, during which time he poured his heart, soul, and creative spirit into every aspect of camp life. To attempt to measure the impact of Wayne’s presence at Bair Lake would be impossible. His influence is woven into the very fabric of this place, from the programming that brought joy and insight to generations of campers, to the spiritual depth that marked each summer, retreat, and gathering.
Wayne was not only a builder of programs and events, but also of hearts and minds. Many will remember with warmth and gratitude his creative and whimsical contributions—particularly his cherished “Culture Time” sessions, where his gentle voice brought the works of Shel Silverstein to life. His poetic readings were more than entertainment; they were moments of connection, reflection, and imagination that invited campers to see the world through eyes of wonder and faith.
Equally unforgettable was Wayne’s gift for teaching. Whether he was guiding young people in the practices of prayer and worship or introducing them to the richness of Christian literature, Wayne consistently pointed others toward deeper communion with God. His wisdom was never forceful, but always profound—rooted in years of study, quiet contemplation, and an unwavering commitment to spiritual growth.
Beyond the programmatic, Wayne served with distinction in key leadership roles at BLBC. As Camp Manager for three years, he provided steady, thoughtful direction. His presence on the BLBC Board of Trustees—both as an active member and later as Trustee Emeritus—was marked by humility and discernment. Though Wayne often spoke softly, his voice carried a resonance that commanded respect. His insights helped steer BLBC through seasons of growth, change, and spiritual renewal.
Wayne’s ministry was never a solo act. Together with his beloved wife, Sharon, he modeled a life of service and devotion to Christ. The love and commitment they shared enriched the camp community in countless ways. It is no surprise that their family continues to be actively involved in many aspects of Bair Lake’s ministry, a testament to the enduring legacy Wayne leaves behind.
In moments of loss, we are reminded of the eternal hope we have in Christ. Wayne’s life was a clear reflection of that hope. We are confident that when he stood before his Savior, he heard those long-awaited words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will remain with us—in the songs we sing around the campfire, the prayers whispered in quiet devotion, and the joyful laughter of campers discovering the love of Jesus.
Thank you, Wayne, for a lifetime of love, creativity, wisdom, and service. Your legacy lives on in the heart of Bair Lake Bible Camp and in all of us who had the privilege to know you.
