LOUISVILLE, KY – Authorities responded to reports of an active shooter situation at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center on Saturday afternoon during the “Run 4 Roses” youth basketball tournament.
The large-scale event, attended by hundreds of young athletes and their families, was abruptly disrupted when shots were reportedly fired on the fairgrounds.
Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and emergency services quickly responded to the scene.
A command post was established as law enforcement and first responders secured the area.
Initial reports indicated a possible active aggressor on the premises, prompting a swift and extensive police presence.
Officials with the Kentucky State Fair Board confirmed that law enforcement was actively investigating the situation and that a lockdown was temporarily implemented to ensure the safety of all attendees.

“We are aware of the reports of a possible active aggressor on the Fairgrounds property,” Louisville Metro Police said in a statement. “At this time, there are no confirmed victims, and the situation remains under active investigation.”
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with many attendees—particularly families with children—evacuating the facility in fear.
Social media posts described the panic and confusion, with several individuals noting the terrifying experience of hearing shots and seeing a heavy police response while at a youth sporting event.
