Beaumont Police Investigating Fatal Shooting of Local Resident; Suspect Still at Large
BEAUMONT, TX — June 21, 2025 — Detectives with the Beaumont Police Department are investigating a tragic and brazen homicide that occurred Saturday afternoon, claiming the life of a local resident in a quiet neighborhood.
At approximately 1:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Delaware Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police and EMS personnel found 51-year-old Brian Lewis suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, Mr. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, Mr. Lewis was mowing his lawn when he was senselessly gunned down in broad daylight. Witnesses reported seeing an unknown male approach and fire on Lewis before fleeing the scene. The suspect is described as a heavyset Black male who was wearing a dark-colored helmet, light-colored pants, and blue gloves. He fled westbound on Delaware Street riding a motorcycle, which has yet to be located.
As news of the incident spread, neighbors expressed both fear and sorrow, shaken by the sudden violence that disrupted an otherwise ordinary afternoon. “He was just taking care of his yard,” said one area resident who declined to be identified. “It’s heartbreaking and terrifying that something like this could happen in broad daylight.”
Mr. Brian Lewis, known to his neighbors as a friendly and hardworking man, is being remembered as someone who took pride in his home and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His sudden and violent death has not only devastated his family but also left the surrounding community searching for answers.
The Beaumont Police Department has released limited information about the suspect at this time but have emphasized the urgency of public assistance in solving the case. Investigators are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and speaking with potential witnesses, but they believe that community tips could be critical to identifying and apprehending the individual responsible.
“This is a deeply disturbing act, and we’re committed to bringing justice for Mr. Lewis and his loved ones,” said a department spokesperson. “We ask anyone who may have seen something — even if it seemed small or insignificant — to come forward.”
Anyone who was in the area of Delaware Street around the time of the shooting or who may have video surveillance (such as doorbell or home security cameras) is urged to contact the Beaumont Police Department at 409-832-1234. Those wishing to remain anonymous can report tips through Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS (8477).
