Birmingham Police Department Arrests Suspect in East Lake Park Homicide

BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 20, 2025) — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD), in collaboration with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, has apprehended 21-year-old De’Aerius Johnson in connection with the murder of 23-year-old Cameron Demijah Little and the shooting of an adult female victim. The arrest took place without incident on Saturday, July 19, in the 3000 block of 15th Street Ensley.

**Incident Details
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., BPD East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert reporting about 10 rounds fired in the 100 block of 84th Street North at East Lake Park. Upon arrival, officers found Cameron Little unresponsive in the park, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead at 12:01 a.m. An adult female also sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during the incident and was transported to UAB Hospital by private vehicle for treatment.

**Investigation and Arrest
Following a thorough investigation, BPD Homicide detectives gathered sufficient evidence to present the case to the Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office. The office issued warrants for De’Aerius Johnson, charging him with:

– Murder
– Assault in the First Degree

On July 19, the BPD Crime Reduction Team, with assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, located and arrested Johnson in Ensley. He is currently being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
