Broken Arrow Tragedy: Police Discover Three Dead in Home During Welfare Check for Missing 20-Year-Old Alyssa Shippy, Uncovering Deep Familial Ties to 2023 Murder-Suicide

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Broken Arrow Police conducted a welfare check at a residence on West Roanoke Street after out-of-state relatives reported 20-year-old Alyssa Shippy missing. She had not been seen since November 2024. Upon entering the home, officers discovered the bodies of three individuals and a dog. The deceased included:

• Rodney Shippy, an adult male who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

• A 10-year-old boy, identified as Rodney’s son.

• An adult female, whose identity has not been officially confirmed but is believed to be Alyssa Shippy.

The state medical examiner’s office is working to confirm the identities and determine the official causes of death.

Familial Connections and Past Tragedies

Further investigation revealed that Alyssa Shippy was the granddaughter of Kenneth and Diane Carpenter, a couple who died in a murder-suicide in Broken Arrow in January 2023. In that incident, Kenneth Carpenter fatally shot his wife before taking his own life.

February 2024: A 17-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The boy is believed to have killed his sister before taking his own life.

October 2022: Eight members of a family, including six children, were found dead in a murder-suicide following a house fire. Investigators believe the parents killed their children before taking their own lives.

The Broken Arrow Police Department is continuing its investigation into the Shippy family deaths. Authorities are interviewing neighbors and relatives to gather more information about the circumstances leading up to the incident. The state medical examiner’s office will provide official determinations on the causes of death.
