A tragic shooting in Houston’s Third Ward has left a community in mourning and sparked an urgent manhunt for 38-year-old Omar Marzouk, who has been charged with murder in the death of 32-year-old Jimmy Arevalo. The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, July 30, 2025, outside a business on Calumet Street, has prompted a swift response from the Houston Police Department as they work to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.

Houston police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 12:30 a.m. at a commercial property in the 3700 block of Calumet Street, near Live Oak in the MacGregor neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jimmy Arevalo, a contract worker who was pressure washing outside a restaurant, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by emergency responders, Arevalo was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, surveillance video captured the events leading up to the shooting. The footage shows a gray Toyota Tundra pulling up to the location where Arevalo was working. The driver, identified as Omar Marzouk, exited the vehicle and engaged in a confrontation with Arevalo. Following a brief altercation, Marzouk allegedly shot Arevalo at close range before fleeing the scene in the truck. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, with police still working to determine what led to the deadly encounter.

Arevalo’s death has left his family, friends, and colleagues devastated. His brother, who was among those inside the business at the time, discovered him moments after the shooting. Described as a dedicated and hardworking individual, Arevalo was well-regarded in his community, and his loss has sent shockwaves through those who knew him. The owner of OMG Seafood/Daiquiri Land, the business outside which the shooting occurred, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the tragic incident that occurred outside our establishment after business hours.”

Houston police have issued a murder charge against Marzouk, who is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities have released a photo of the suspect to aid in his capture and are urging the public to remain vigilant. “This is a heartbreaking case, and we are fully committed to bringing the suspect into custody to deliver justice for Jimmy Arevalo and his loved ones,” said a Houston Police Department spokesperson.

The investigation is ongoing, with police analyzing additional evidence and following leads to locate Marzouk. Law enforcement has mobilized resources across the city and is collaborating with other agencies to track him down. The public is encouraged to provide any information that could assist in the case. Tips can be submitted to the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division at (713) 308-3600 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS. A reward may be available for information leading to Marzouk’s arrest.

As the search for Omar Marzouk continues, the Third Ward community remains on edge, grappling with yet another instance of violence in the area. Residents and local leaders are calling for increased efforts to address crime, while Arevalo’s loved ones mourn the loss of a man whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. Updates will be provided as new details emerge in this developing story.
