Dayton Tragedy: Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Apparent Murder-Suicide
DAYTON, Nev. — A quiet neighborhood in Dayton was shaken by tragedy on Friday, June 14, as the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) launched an investigation into what authorities are now treating as a murder-suicide.
At approximately 12:00 p.m., LCSO dispatch received a disturbing 911 call from a male who reported the death of a woman inside a residence located in the 100 block of Alamosa Street. During the call, the man provided the name of the deceased female and referred to the incident using the code “187,” a well-known law enforcement term associated with homicide. The nature and tone of the call prompted immediate concern from dispatchers and law enforcement.
Deputies quickly responded to the Dayton home and upon arrival, discovered the lifeless body of a woman inside the residence. According to initial assessments, the woman had suffered injuries consistent with a homicide, though the full circumstances of her death have not yet been publicly disclosed pending autopsy results and further investigation.
As detectives began piecing together the events surrounding the woman’s death, they were able to identify the male caller as a resident of the same household. Using advanced location-tracking technology, investigators traced his movements following the 911 call. The search led authorities across state lines to a remote region of Alpine County, California, nestled within the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
At approximately 5:00 p.m., Alpine County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies located the male subject deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other individuals were found at the scene.
With the discovery of both individuals deceased, LCSO has indicated that the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, a chilling and tragic sequence that has left the small community reeling. Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
“This is a heartbreaking incident for everyone involved,” said a spokesperson for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. “Our thoughts are with the families and the community as we work to understand what led to this devastating outcome.”
Neighbors in the Alamosa Street area expressed shock and sorrow upon learning of the incident. Several residents described the household as quiet, with no visible signs of distress or disturbances prior to the tragic events of June 14.
