COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 5, 2025) — A late-night disturbance in downtown Colorado Springs ended in tragedy early Saturday morning, as police confirmed one person is dead following an officer-involved shooting near the intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and Tejon Street.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers were dispatched to the area just after 1:30 a.m. in response to reports of a possible disturbance. The scene unfolded in a busy part of downtown, an area often populated with nightlife activity on weekends.

As CSPD officers responded to the initial call, personnel monitoring the city’s network of downtown surveillance cameras spotted a man matching the suspect description provided by witnesses. Police say the man appeared to be armed with a firearm.

As of 7:15 a.m., Pikes Peak Avenue remains closed in both directions between Tejon Street and Nevada Avenue, causing minor traffic disruptions in the downtown corridor. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area until the investigation is complete.

In accordance with Colorado law and standard protocol, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will take the lead in investigating the officer-involved shooting. This ensures an independent review of the use of force and preserves transparency during the inquiry.
