ALACHUA, FL — A swift response by the Alachua Police Department led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Gainesville man, Janier Hills, after officers discovered a woman allegedly being held against her will and physically assaulted in a local hotel room.

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:27 AM, officers were dispatched to the Royal Inn, located at 16305 NW 162nd Lane, after receiving a distress call from a concerned friend of the victim. The caller informed dispatchers that her friend had been texting her for help, saying she was being restrained inside a hotel room and was not allowed to leave. The messages stopped abruptly, raising immediate alarm and prompting the friend to contact authorities.

Immediate Response and Arrest

When officers arrived at the hotel, they observed a male suspect exiting the room in question and attempting to flee the scene toward a fence line at the back of the property. Officers acted quickly, detaining the suspect, later identified as Janier Hills of Gainesville.

Upon entering the room, police found the female victim with visible injuries, including a swollen eye and a bleeding lip. She told investigators that she had been physically assaulted, prevented from leaving, and had her phone forcibly taken away to stop her from contacting emergency services.

Charges and Custody

Following a Miranda Rights advisement, Hills denied all allegations but was nonetheless taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Alachua County Jail, where he faces charges including:

  • False Imprisonment
  • Battery (Domestic Violence)
  • Deprivation of Communication for Emergency Assistance

The victim was provided medical attention at the scene and connected with victim support services.
