A serene Friday morning in Greenwood was shattered by a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a local man, leaving a community in mourning and authorities piecing together the tragic sequence of events.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. on August 29, 2025, along a stretch of Beach Highway just west of Webb Farm Road. According to the Delaware State Police, a gray Kawasaki ZX6 motorcycle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. In a fateful decision, the 39-year-old operator from Dover attempted to overtake two vehicles ahead of him.
During this high-speed passing maneuver, the motorcycle briefly crossed into the oncoming eastbound lane. As the rider steered to return to the westbound lane, he tragically lost control of the powerful sport bike. The motorcycle violently skidded across the pavement, careened off the roadway, and slammed into a utility pole with devastating force.
The impact immediately ejected the rider from the motorcycle. Emergency personnel responded to the scene; however, the Dover man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location. Out of respect for his family and to allow for proper notification, authorities are temporarily withholding his identity.
The investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing, led by the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. The closure of Beach Highway for nearly five hours underscored the severity of the incident as detectives meticulously documented the scene.
Police are now urging anyone who witnessed the crash, including drivers with potential dashcam footage, or anyone with any information to come forward to assist with the investigation. Witnesses can contact Senior Corporal J. Smith directly at (302) 703-3267.
