Authorities in Eastpointe, Michigan have confirmed that 19-year-old Lakylia Taylor has been taken into custody in connection with a tragic quadruple shooting that occurred outside a Foot Locker store on Sunday, May 5, 2025. The violent incident claimed the lives of two men and left two other individuals injured, sending shockwaves through the local community and drawing increased attention to ongoing concerns around gun violence in the area.

According to investigators, the shooting unfolded in the early evening hours in the parking lot of the Foot Locker, located near 8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted unexpectedly, causing bystanders to scatter in fear. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where they found four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two male victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been publicly released as officials work to notify their families. The two other victims, whose conditions were initially listed as serious, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of Tuesday morning, both individuals are reportedly in stable condition, though they remain under medical supervision.

Following the shooting, Eastpointe police launched an intensive investigation, gathering witness statements, reviewing surveillance footage, and processing forensic evidence. Through this work, authorities were able to identify Lakylia Taylor as a person of interest. On Monday evening, Taylor was apprehended without incident and taken into custody. She is currently being held pending formal charges.

Officials have not released a motive for the shooting, but they have stated that the violence does not appear to be random. “This was a targeted incident,” Eastpointe Police Chief Eric Keiser said during a press briefing. “While the investigation is still very active, we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public.”

Taylor is expected to be arraigned later this week. Prosecutors are working closely with law enforcement to determine the appropriate charges, which may include multiple counts of homicide, assault with intent to murder, and felony firearm possession.

The community response has been one of shock and sorrow. Local leaders, including Eastpointe Mayor Monique Owens, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the city’s commitment to ensuring public safety. “This senseless violence has no place in our community,” Owens said in a statement. “We stand with the families affected and will do everything in our power to support the investigation and promote healing.”

Community members held a candlelight vigil Monday night near the site of the shooting, laying flowers and sharing memories of the victims. Many called for increased efforts to address the root causes of violence and improve resources for youth and families in Eastpointe.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information or footage related to the shooting to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Michigan.

This developing story continues to evolve as more details emerge, and authorities are expected to provide further updates in the coming days. For now, the Eastpointe community mourns the loss of life and looks ahead to justice and accountability in the wake of this tragedy.
