Fatal Crash in Sioux Falls Claims Life of 76-Year-Old Robert Jensen
Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Authorities in Sioux Falls are investigating a tragic traffic collision that claimed the life of 76-year-old Robert Jensen on Friday, June 27, 2025. The crash occurred around 5:08 PM on Madison Street, just west of Kiwanis Avenue, and was witnessed by a traffic officer who happened to be on patrol at the time.
According to the Sioux Falls Police Department, the crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 71-year-old male, who entered Madison Street from a private drive on the south side. At the same time, a Honda CRV traveling eastbound on Madison collided head-on with the Silverado.
The Honda was occupied by a 53-year-old woman driver, a 76-year-old woman in the front passenger seat, and Robert Jensen, seated in the rear passenger-side seat.
The officer who observed the crash responded immediately and began rendering aid, with additional support arriving from first responders. All parties involved were transported to local medical facilities. Tragically, Robert Jensen succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical personnel. The other individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
All parties involved are residents of Sioux Falls. Preliminary findings indicate that speed and impairment were not factors, but investigators are examining whether lack of seatbelt use may have contributed to Mr. Jensen’s death.
The Sioux Falls Police Department Traffic Section is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing. Authorities have extended condolences to Mr. Jensen’s family and are reminding the public of the life-saving importance of proper seatbelt use.
