INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon near Graham Edward Martin Park, a normally quiet area just northeast of downtown Indianapolis.

According to an official IMPD incident report, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Fall Creek Parkway East Drive and West 13th Street at approximately 3:10 p.m. on July 5th. Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

IMPD confirmed in a brief press release that the injuries appeared to be self-inflicted, and the victim tragically succumbed to those injuries at the scene. The department has classified the incident as a homicide investigation, a standard procedure in any death involving a firearm, until more detailed information confirms the exact nature of the case.

The identity of the deceased individual has not yet been released, pending proper notification of next of kin by the Marion County Coroner’s Office. Authorities have not shared whether any weapon was recovered at the scene or whether any bystanders witnessed the incident.

The area near Fall Creek Parkway and West 13th Street was temporarily closed as officers worked to process the scene and gather evidence. While foul play is not currently suspected based on preliminary information, detectives are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting.

Community members in the area have expressed concern and sorrow over the tragic event. Graham Edward Martin Park, typically known for its peaceful environment and proximity to the scenic Fall Creek Trail, was the backdrop to a heartbreaking scene that has stirred calls for increased mental health awareness and violence prevention resources throughout the city.
