CAMBRIDGE, OH — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a tragic single-vehicle crash that occurred early Tuesday morning, July 23, 2025, on Interstate 77 just north of Cambridge. The incident, which took place near mile post 56 at approximately 5:57 a.m., claimed the life of 63-year-old Christopher Morrow of Newcomerstown.

According to the Cambridge Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Morrow was driving a 2011 Ford Fusion northbound on I-77 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway. The car crossed the grassy median, entered the southbound lanes, and collided with a guardrail before coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Emergency responders arrived promptly but found Morrow unresponsive. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by officials from the Guernsey County Coroner’s Office. Authorities noted that Morrow was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, a factor that may have contributed to the fatal outcome.

The response to the incident involved multiple agencies, including the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, Ohio Health EMS, the Guernsey County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Lloyd’s Towing. These teams worked together to secure the scene, manage traffic, and support the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are exploring potential causes of the crash, including mechanical issues, weather conditions, medical emergencies, or driver fatigue. No definitive cause has been determined, and the investigation remains active.

The Newcomerstown community is reeling from the loss of Christopher Morrow, remembered by friends and neighbors as a kind and diligent individual who lived a quiet, meaningful life. His sudden passing has prompted an outpouring of grief and support for his family, who are navigating this profound loss.

In response to the tragedy, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reiterating the critical importance of seatbelt use. “Wearing a seatbelt is a simple action that can significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash,” said an OSHP spokesperson. “This incident is a heartbreaking reminder of why safety measures matter.”

Authorities are also urging drivers to stay vigilant, avoid distractions, and follow traffic safety guidelines, particularly on high-speed routes like I-77.

Morrow’s family is expected to share details of memorial services in the coming days and has requested privacy during this difficult time. The Ohio State Highway Patrol will provide updates as the investigation progresses, emphasizing their commitment to road safety and preventing future tragedies.

Rest in peace, Christopher Morrow. Your life touched many, and your loss is deeply mourned.
