Gainesville is grieving the loss of a man who meant so much to so many.
Rick Parks wasn’t just a personal trainer, he was a mentor, motivator, and friend.
He earned the title of Mr. Georgia in 1984, but his real legacy came after that, when he devoted more than three decades to lifting others up through fitness, mentorship, and service.
He owned Rick’s Personal Training and “Rick’s Gem of Gyms,” where he trained generations of clients.
But his reach extended far beyond the walls of any gym. Rick spent his time speaking in schools, churches, and prisons, inspiring people with his story and encouraging them to chase strength, not just in body, but in spirit.
Rick passed away by suicide this week, inside the gym he built with so much passion. He had entered a hard and painful season, one so many people walk through in silence.
His death is heartbreaking. But it’s also a reminder: you are not alone. You are loved. And there is help.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Help is always just one call away.
Rick gave so much of himself to others. Let’s honor him by checking in on one another, being kind, and never being afraid to reach out when life feels heavy.
He will be missed deeply and remembered always
