WARRINVILLE, CUNUPIA – A late-night tragedy has rocked the quiet community of Cunupia, as a beloved grill house worker was brutally gunned down inside his van in what police suspect may have been a cold-blooded carjacking.

Ambrose Borde, a 54-year-old delivery driver employed by Max Grill, was discovered dead in his white Kia 2700 van (Registration No. TEE 9734) shortly after midnight on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. His lifeless body was slumped behind the steering wheel along the Southern Main Road in Warrenville, a stretch often used by late-shift workers returning home.

According to initial reports, Borde, a resident of Ramgoolie Trace North, had just finished a delivery shift and was en route home when he was ambushed. Law enforcement sources confirmed that the shooting appeared targeted and not random, fueling suspicions that the attackers may have been trailing him with the intent to steal his vehicle.

The chilling discovery was made around 12:15 a.m., when passersby noticed the van parked awkwardly on the roadside. Upon closer inspection, they were met with a grim sight—Borde, shot multiple times, unresponsive and soaked in blood. Emergency services were immediately contacted, but paramedics could only confirm what was already feared: he was dead at the scene.

Cunupia police have since launched a full investigation into the murder. While the motive is still under active scrutiny, detectives believe the assailants may have been after the vehicle itself—a common target due to its commercial utility and high resale value in the underground market. Strangely, the van was not stolen, suggesting the killers may have fled in panic or were interrupted before completing their intended theft.

Officers are now combing through CCTV footage from surrounding businesses and residential properties in the area, hoping to track down the culprits or any suspicious activity that could lead to arrests. Crime Scene Investigators spent hours at the location collecting forensic evidence, including spent shell casings believed to be from a semi-automatic weapon.

Friends and coworkers of Borde are reeling from the news. Known for his reliability and warm demeanor, Ambrose had been with Max Grill for several years and was described by colleagues as a hardworking, humble man who kept to himself and avoided conflict.

“Ambrose was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. He worked hard, went home, and took care of his family. This is just heartbreaking,” said one coworker who asked not to be named.

His tragic death has left the small business community shaken and sparked new calls for increased police patrols in industrial and suburban zones after hours. Residents in the area have expressed concern over the growing trend of violent robberies, many of which remain unsolved.

As investigators continue their probe, Borde’s family is left to grapple with a senseless loss, preparing for a funeral no one could have anticipated. The murder adds yet another name to the growing list of victims lost to gun violence in Trinidad and Tobago this year.

Police are urging anyone with information related to the killing of Ambrose Borde or sightings of suspicious activity near the Southern Main Road on the night in question to contact Crime Stoppers or the Cunupia Police Station.

This is a developing story.
