Homewood-Flossmoor High School Senior Dies in Calumet City Crash

An 18-year-old senior from Homewood-Flossmoor High School tragically lost their life in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Calumet City, Illinois. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Western Avenue and Hutchinson Road. The student, identified as Oliver Paredes, was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it left the roadway. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Paredes was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team. Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the accident. 

Homewood-Flossmoor High School officials have expressed profound sorrow over the loss of one of their students. In a statement, the school extended condolences to Paredes’ family and friends, noting the impact of his passing on the school community. Counseling services are being made available to students and staff coping with the tragedy. 

Paredes was known among peers and teachers as a dedicated student with a bright future. His untimely death has left classmates and faculty mourning the loss of a young life taken too soon.
