Houston, TX – May 4, 2025 — In a deeply tragic event that has sent shockwaves through the Houston community and across the Atlantic, 23-year-old Tamilore Odunsi, a British nursing student with a bright future ahead of her, was fatally stabbed in her apartment just days before she was set to graduate.
Odunsi, originally from London, had traveled to the United States to pursue a nursing degree at a Houston-based medical university. Described by professors and classmates as kind-hearted, driven, and passionate about caring for others, Odunsi was on the cusp of completing her studies and had already received a job offer from a local hospital. Her life was cut short in the early hours of May 2, when authorities say she was attacked in the apartment she shared with 40-year-old Chester Lamar Grant.
Grant, who has since been charged with murder, was arrested at the scene after a neighbor reported hearing screams and called 911. Responding officers found Odunsi with multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Houston Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Melissa Rodriguez, the motive for the attack remains under investigation. “At this point, we are still trying to determine the nature of the relationship between the victim and the suspect beyond being roommates. There is no indication at this time of a romantic involvement or prior history of violence reported between them.”
The news of her death has devastated her family in the United Kingdom, who were expected to fly into Houston this week to attend her graduation. In a statement released through a family liaison officer, her parents expressed their heartbreak: “Tamilore was the light of our lives, full of compassion and purpose. She left home to follow her dreams, and she nearly made it. We are utterly shattered.”
