MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Another life has been tragically cut short on Memphis highways. Ikeyana Bowie, a 20-year-old woman from Memphis, was fatally shot on I-240 near the Highway 385 exit Saturday night, June 29, 2025. The senseless act of violence also left a man critically injured and has once again turned one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares into a scene of heartbreak.

According to Memphis Police, Ikeyana was found inside a vehicle after gunfire erupted along the interstate. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The investigation remains ongoing.

“She didn’t deserve it,” said Erica Jordan, Ikeyana’s grieving aunt. “It just doesn’t feel real.”

Jordan described Ikeyana as a joyful and loving young woman who was full of life and had a close bond with her family. “She had a great personality. She was just a fun person to be around. We used to talk every day, and I was her go-to person,” she told FOX13.

Ikeyana Bowie’s death marks the 25th roadway or highway shooting in the Memphis area so far this year. Despite increased patrols by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the growing pattern of violence has left families like the Bowies devastated and demanding change.

“No amount of law enforcement can bring her back,” Jordan said. “Her life was stolen, and now we’re left trying to make sense of something that makes no sense at all.”
