In Loving Memory of Don Robert McIntosh
March 12, 1954 – July 21, 2025
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Robert McIntosh, age 71, of Metropolis, Illinois, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A man of profound faith, unwavering kindness, and infectious joy, Don lived a life full of purpose, laughter, and love. He was a longtime and faithful member of the Lone Oak Church of Christ, where he found strength, community, and a place to share his faith and fellowship with others. His devotion to God and to those around him shaped the life he led and the legacy he leaves behind.
Born on March 12, 1954, Don grew up with a deep appreciation for nature, adventure, and family values. His love for the great outdoors was unmistakable — he found serenity in the simple pleasures of life like hiking wooded trails, riding his motorcycle on open roads, and traveling to new places that sparked his sense of curiosity and wonder. Whether he was camping under the stars or cruising scenic highways, Don found spiritual peace and adventure in every mile.
One of Don’s most cherished pastimes was singing karaoke. His warm voice and bold spirit lit up the room, and he never hesitated to grab the microphone, entertain, and encourage others to join in. It wasn’t just about the music for Don — it was about creating moments of joy and connection. His laughter was contagious, and his presence, magnetic.
Above all else, Don loved his family deeply and unconditionally. He treasured every moment spent with them — whether it was a simple Sunday dinner, a family reunion, a spontaneous road trip, or just sitting outside enjoying the company of those he held dear. He was a proud father and grandfather whose wisdom, guidance, and love will continue to echo in the lives of those he helped shape.
To know Don was to know a man of humility, integrity, and grace. He was the kind of person who would lend a helping hand to a stranger, offer a listening ear without judgment, and show up for the people he cared about — time and time again. His generosity and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Don leaves behind a loving family who will forever honor his memory and spirit. While our hearts are broken by his absence, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who passed before him, and held in the arms of the Lord he served so faithfully.
As we mourn Don’s passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived and deeply loved. His legacy will live on through the stories shared, the values he instilled, and the many lives he touched. In our grief, we find strength in the laughter he brought us, the memories we created together, and the promise of reunion in eternity.
A memorial service to celebrate Don’s life will be announced by the family in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Don’s honor to the Lone Oak Church of Christ or to a local nature conservation group — a tribute to his enduring love for faith and the outdoors.
Rest in peace, Don. Your song lives on in the hearts of all who love you.
