Sunnyvale, California

Kirstin Lynn (Krall) Sims, a cherished member of the Sunnyvale community and a beacon of light to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments, a reflection of the deep and enduring connections she fostered throughout her life.

Kirstin was known not only for her intellect and professional excellence but also for her warmth, humor, and unwavering support of those around her. Born in the Bay Area, Kirstin’s life was marked by a passion for learning and a deep commitment to bettering the world around her. She earned her degree in the biological sciences, a foundation for a flourishing career in the Biotech industry where she quickly rose through the ranks with a combination of technical brilliance and compassionate leadership.

Over the years, Kirstin became a respected voice in the field, known for her innovative work and her talent for mentorship. Colleagues often spoke of her as the rare kind of professional who could command a room with confidence and grace, yet always made time to listen, guide, and lift others. She brought integrity and empathy to every role she held, and her legacy in the industry will endure through the many people she inspired and empowered.

Beyond her professional achievements, Kirstin was deeply devoted to her family. She shared a joyful and loving marriage with her husband, Michael Sims. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, music, and deep affection. Their daughter, Josephine (Josie), was the light of Kirstin’s life—a bond that exemplified the profound strength and tenderness of her spirit. Kirstin embraced motherhood with the same passion and care she gave to every endeavor, nurturing Josie with wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support.

Kirstin was a woman of many dimensions. Her friends remember her as the person who never forgot a birthday, who could light up a room with her infectious laughter, and who was always ready with a thoughtful word or a helping hand. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for loved ones, and had an artist’s eye for beauty in the everyday. She was also a person of deep faith, and her life was a testament to the values she held dear: love, compassion, humility, and service.

She leaves behind a legacy that is as wide as it is deep—rooted in love, community, and the sincere pursuit of making life better for others. In addition to her husband Michael and daughter Josie, Kirstin is survived by extended family, countless friends, and colleagues who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

To honor her life and the many ways she enriched the lives of others, a Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in San Jose, California. All who knew Kirstin or were touched by her generous spirit are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Kirstin’s name to a local charity supporting women in science or to St. Christopher’s parish outreach programs—causes close to her heart.

Though her time with us was far too short, Kirstin’s legacy will continue to grow through the love she gave, the lives she changed, and the example she set.

May her soul rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
