It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt respect that St. Francis Xavier University shares the news of the passing of Fr. Stanley MacDonald. A cherished member of the Xaverian community, Fr. Stan’s life was marked by unwavering faith, profound compassion, and a lifelong dedication to service. His passing is a significant loss, not only for those who knew and loved him personally, but for the entire StFX community and beyond.

Fr. Stan was more than a priest—he was a friend, mentor, and guide to generations of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Whether through his pastoral work, his presence at university events, or his quiet counsel in times of need, Fr. Stan embodied the very spirit of Xaverian values: humility, simplicity, compassion, and zeal. His warmth and gentle humour were hallmarks of his character, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him a beacon of hope and kindness.

Throughout his years of service to the university, Fr. Stan offered spiritual support that transcended the chapel walls. His homilies were renowned not only for their depth of insight but also for their sincere message of love, inclusion, and human dignity. He carried a profound sense of purpose rooted in his faith, and he shared that faith generously and without judgment. His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration, and his passing leaves a void that words alone cannot fill.

In remembering Fr. Stan, we honour a life lived in selfless service. He walked alongside our students in their academic journeys, celebrated their triumphs, and offered solace during their challenges. He blessed countless moments—weddings, baptisms, and graduations—and he grieved with those who suffered loss. In every season of campus life, Fr. Stan was there, a steady and compassionate presence.

The legacy of Fr. Stanley MacDonald will endure in the lives he touched, the community he helped build, and the spirit of connection he so faithfully nurtured. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable contributions he made to our university and the enduring love he had for his Xaverian family.

Please see the message from StFX President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Andy Hakin, who reflects on the immense impact Fr. Stan had on our community and the many ways in which his legacy will continue to shape us all.

May Fr. Stan rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
