Jennings, Louisiana – Arrest Made in Violent Sexual Assault Incident
Suspect in Custody Following Swift Police Response to Rape in Progress on North Cary Street

On the evening of June 5, 2025, the Jennings Police Department responded to a horrifying and deeply distressing call regarding a rape in progress near the 1700 block of North Cary Street. The call, placed by a distressed witness, reported that a female resident of the home was actively being sexually assaulted by an unknown male suspect.

Thanks to the swift response by law enforcement, officers arrived in under one minute from the time the call was received. Upon entering the scene, officers witnessed the suspect — described in the initial call as a Black male — attempting to pull his pants up. He was immediately taken into custody. The suspect was later identified as Tristan West, a local transient with a known history of violent criminal behavior.

Preliminary investigation revealed that West had been recently released from parole, having previously served time for Resisting an Officer and Possession of Fentanyl. Just weeks after his release, West allegedly committed this heinous crime.

According to police reports and victim testimony, the victim initially encountered West as he passed by the residence on foot. West reportedly befriended the victim, gaining her trust during a seemingly innocent exchange. He then requested to use the bathroom, and the victim, along with other occupants of the house, allowed him inside. Once in the home, West entered the restroom and then emerged to confront the victim in the front living room, where he allegedly began a violent sexual assault.

Despite the victim’s repeated pleas for West to stop, the attack continued until other residents in the home intervened, effectively halting the assault and allowing time for law enforcement to arrive. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she received medical care and support.

During interviews with investigators, Tristan West admitted to the sexual act, and he was formally booked into the parish jail on charges of 2nd Degree Rape. As this is an active investigation, authorities are working to collect further evidence, and all legal proceedings will follow due process. It must be emphasized that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Chief Danny Semmes praised the bravery of the victim, commending her strength and courage in speaking with officers about the attack. He also acknowledged the heroic actions of the other occupants in the home, whose swift intervention likely prevented the situation from becoming even more tragic.

“This is an incredibly disturbing case, but it’s also a reminder of how critical community vigilance and quick response are in protecting victims and apprehending violent offenders,” Chief Semmes stated. “We stand with the victim and her family as they begin the long process of healing, and we will continue to pursue justice with diligence and care.”

The Jennings Police Department encourages anyone who may have further information about the suspect or this incident to contact them directly. Resources for sexual assault survivors, including crisis counseling and legal assistance, are available throughout the region and will be offered to the victim and her family.

This deeply troubling event has left many in the Jennings community shaken. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

Our thoughts are with the survivor and her loved ones during this painful time. The community extends its heartfelt support and solidarity as she begins the path toward healing.
