Limassol, Cyprus — On the morning of October 17, 2025, the coastal city of Limassol was rocked by a targeted shooting that claimed the life of Stavros Demosthenous, a 49-year-old businessman and former chairman of the Karmiotissa football club. The tragic incident unfolded around 9:30 AM, approximately 500 meters from Demosthenous’s residence in the Sfalangiotissa area.

According to police reports, Demosthenous was a passenger in a luxury vehicle driven by his 18-year-old son when a white van abruptly cut them off. As the vehicle slowed, assailants emerged from the van and opened fire, striking Demosthenous multiple times. Despite his son’s immediate efforts to rush him to the hospital, Demosthenous succumbed to his injuries en route.

Authorities have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder. The suspects, aged 58, 30, and 39, were remanded in custody for eight days by the Limassol District Court. Investigations suggest that the assailants used a stolen van for the attack and later set it ablaze to destroy evidence. A high-powered motorcycle, believed to have been used as a getaway vehicle, was also discovered and is under forensic examination.

Demosthenous, known for his involvement in both the automotive and sports industries, had been under surveillance prior to the attack. Police are examining CCTV footage and have conducted multiple searches to gather evidence. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and authorities continue to explore all leads.

The victim’s family, particularly his son who witnessed the harrowing event, is receiving support from the community. Funeral services were held at the Church of Ayios Kosmas of Aitolona, where friends, family, and colleagues gathered to pay their respects.

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has expressed its condolences, postponing all Karmiotissa matches scheduled from the day of the incident until the following Sunday. The association has also pledged support to the victim’s family during this difficult time.

As investigations continue, the Limassol community remains in shock, grappling with the loss of a prominent local figure. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward as they work diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
