Man Arrested for Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes
The Statesboro Police Department has made a significant arrest in a disturbing case involving the alleged online enticement of a juvenile. Rico Curry, age 37, of Atlanta, Georgia, was taken into custody on June 21, 2025, following a multi-agency effort that resulted in the safe recovery of two juvenile females and the prevention of what authorities believe could have escalated into a much more serious crime.
Initial Report and Discovery
On June 21, 2025, SPD officers were contacted by the mother of a juvenile female who expressed concern regarding her daughter’s online communication with an adult male family member. Upon reviewing her daughter’s iPad, the mother discovered sexually graphic and suggestive messages sent by the man, who was later identified as Rico Curry.
Unbeknownst to the mother at the time of the discovery, she had already given permission for both of her juvenile daughters to accompany Curry on what she believed to be a benign overnight trip to Savannah, Georgia. The sexually explicit nature of the messages and the fact that the children were alone with the adult male raised immediate and severe concerns for their safety.
Emergency Investigation and Inter-Agency Collaboration
Recognizing the urgency and potential severity of the situation, SPD detectives quickly launched an investigation. Working in collaboration with phone service providers, they were able to trace the location of Curry and the juveniles to the Skidaway Island area in Chatham County.
SPD reached out to the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), who responded swiftly to the call for assistance. CCPD officers initiated a search in the area and, within hours, successfully located and apprehended Curry, securing the safe return of the two minors.
Charges and Current Status
Following his arrest, Rico Curry was booked into the Chatham County Jail and was later transferred to Bulloch County, where the original complaint was filed. He has been formally charged with one count of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes. As of this release, Curry remains in custody and is awaiting further judicial proceedings.
Gratitude and Public Safety Reminder
The Statesboro Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the officers of the Chatham County Police Department, whose rapid and effective response played a critical role in ensuring the safety of the juveniles and facilitating the arrest of the suspect.
“This case highlights the very real dangers posed by predatory individuals who use digital communication to exploit minors,” said Senior Detective Ben Purvis. “Thanks to the swift collaboration between departments, we were able to intervene before greater harm could be done.”
SPD urges all parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online activity and communications. Open dialogue and regular monitoring of electronic devices can play a pivotal role in preventing similar situations.
